HARDENED TOOTH PLAQUE OR CALCULUS (TARTAR)

The formation of soft plaque in the mouth is a daily occurence. Usually it is invisible to the eye, therefore it is very important to take care of your oral hygiene, which includes brushing, flossing and the use of interdental brushes. The use of a tooth brush only is not sufficient, because we don’t remove interdental plaque, which can be eliminated with floss or interdental brushes.

When a small problem turns into a big one

If you don’t remove dental plaque thouroughly and regularly, the soft plaque starts turning into the hardened one after 12 hours- we call this plaque calculus or tartar. It is different from the soft plaque, because it can be seen. It can be a creamy, yellow or brown color.

This is not the only reason, why calculus is unwanted. Because of it’s rough surface it is an ideal place that collects additional soft plaque. If we don’t remove it regularly, it also causes gum inflammation and the onset of periodontal disease.

HARD PLAQUE – A SERIOUS ENEMY

When plaque hardens, it can’t be removed by the patient himself. In our practice this is performed with special instruments and machines by the oral hygienist, who also polishes the surface. That is how she prevents new plaque from acommulating and the onset of periodontal disease and enables you to easily (daily) clean your teeth.
